TOP 3 New Tool Releases - Milwaukee Tools New Product Symposium (NPS) 2019.
UPDATE 8 JAN 2020: All products featured in this post have now been released in Australia and are available for purchase. Happy days!
Last week, Wayne and Warren travelled to Melbourne for the 2019 Milwaukee Tools New Product Symposium, affectionately known as NPS. The event is hosted by Milwaukee Tools just once a year and dealers are invited to learn about their new and upcoming releases.
This year, we weren’t disappointed; there’s some great gear coming your way. Some needs more refinement; some will be hitting our shelves soon. Read on to hear about 3 of our favourite new tools.
NOTE: Prices and release dates are currently unknown, but we couldn’t wait to share this with you. We’ll come back and provide an update when we have those details.
1. The wait for a laminate trimmer is over!
Anyone who’s been holding off investing in the Milwaukee system for carpentry and cabinetmaking should give it a serious look now. They’ve taken their time developing the M18 Fuel Laminate Trimmer in close collaboration with users in the field and now bring you a brushless motor unit with 1¼ horsepower that matches corded capability. Some other serious specs:
+ Variable speed dial: 10,000 RPM to 31,000 RPM
+ Micro depth adjustment down to 1/64”
+ Run-time: 76m of 3/8” roundover in red oak (M18 5.0Ah battery).
The reviewers who’ve gotten hold of this to-date concur that it feels good in the hand, and the power claims are real. Cordless units can feel top heavy if you’re new to them, but the 5.0Ah battery seems to sit comfortably for best balance.
There’s more though - it’s the accessories that get us most excited about this unit, with both plunge and offset bases coming available. This entire package is versatile, lightweight and powerful. A seriously good offering.
2. Banish your manual torque wrench
Milwaukee’s offering for automotive trades is going from strength to strength, and their looming launch of the world’s first motorised torque wrench is a game-changer! We present the M12 Fuel 1/2” Digital Torque Wrench with One-Key (also coming in 3/8”).
Use the tool’s screen and buttons to punch in your desired torque, hook on and use the motor to tighten (it’ll automatically stop when close), then just a small manual turn and you’ll get a green light and sound when you’ve hit the mark. Go too far and a red light and alarm will tip you off.
Take advantage of 15 pre-sets for your most common settings and say goodbye to conversions - the tool is compatible with four units of measure:
+ Newton metres (Nm)
+ Inch pounds (In-lbs)
+ Foot pounds (ft-lbs)
+ Kilogram centimetres (kg-cm).
Milwaukee claims accuracy to +/- 2% and up to 50% faster installation.
Need compliance and quality assurance? Take advantage of the One-Key functionality and you’ll be able to track the details for every fastener and download a complete report.
If you’re already using the M12 system, this is a no-brainer. It’ll come as tool only or a kit with 2 batteries and charger. In both instances, you’ll get a blow mould case for safe storage.
The only downside here is that the tool comes with a calibration statement only, not a calibration certificate. We know this’ll mean it won’t measure up for some users, and we’ve passed this feedback on to Milwaukee. Annual calibration is still a must - drop it in and we’ll take care of the process for you.
Overall, this is a very exciting development.
3. A serious cordless demo saw?
Yep, we’re serious. The first demo saw from Milwaukee is coming your way. The M18 Fuel 230mm (9”) Cut Off Saw with One Key can be used wet or dry and is great for concrete, reo bar, pipes and general demo. We really like the blade size, it makes for a super portable unit that’s still extremely functional.
Check out some specs:
+ Run time: 70 cuts into 5/8” rebar (M18 12.0Ah)
+ Sealed battery compartment to protect from water and dust
+ Rapid stop blade brake – less than 3 seconds to stop
+ Onboard water delivery system with standard hose attachment
+ Can be paired with the new M18 Switch Tank for water supply giving complete portability
+ Overload indicator light (demos suggest it handles a lot before this is an issue!).
The unit will come as tool only or in a kit with 2 batteries. A cordless demo saw with surprising power – we think this’ll be a great investment and a dream to use.
So there you have it, our favourite 3! There are many more new and updated products in the pipeline, but we couldn’t go past these tools for their potential to provide massive wins on the jobsite. Bring it on!
